We’ve all watched an advert that’s made us emotional, or even cry. Sometimes it’s nice to see an ad that isn’t directly pushing a product or a service. Our team has compiled some of the most tearjerking adverts that have graced our screens. Do any of these ads seem familiar, or is it your first time seeing some of them?

Google’s Loretta Ad
Now this one is a gut-wrencher. If you haven’t seen it, it tells the short story of a widower remembering his late wife and keeping her memories alive by using Google Assistant. This ad aired during the 2020 Superbowl, which gave Google the best reach to get everyone feeling a bit emotional. This ad was based on a true story, and Google’s goal for the ad was to show how the company can build products that help people in their daily lives.
John Lewis Christmas 2019
It wouldn’t be a list of emotional adverts if we didn’t include a John Lewis Christmas ad! With their reputation of creating tear-inducing adverts each Christmas, it would be a crime to not include them. Do you remember the 2019 advert featured a little girl and her dragon friend, excitable Edgar? The moral of the story is how Christmas is a time for everybody to come together.
Aviva – Holiday Packing
Now, this advert starts off quite jolly, but don’t be fooled, this is a hard-hitting advert with a serious message. We don’t want to go into too much detail in case you haven’t watched the advert before, but it’s about life insurance, that’s all we can say.
Cesar – Love Them Back
If you’re a dog lover, adverts featuring a beloved pet are bound to make you emotional. This ad showcases the love between a human and man’s best friend. While we can’t have a conversation with them, they’ll always be by our side.
Apple – The Surprise
Another emotional Christmas ad (no surprise there). This time Apple have outdone themselves with this advert. Bringing together the family is a big part of Christmas and this advert reinforces that. This one tugs at our heartstrings, especially as many can relate to missing a family member during the holiday season.
ITV – Apart. But Never Alone
A creative and hard-hitting advert by ITV, this one hits home during the Coronavirus outbreak. Featuring a variety of British celebs, this one hits hard as it’s something the vast majority of us can relate to. I would be lying if I said I didn’t shed a tear. Did this make you shed a tear too?
Buzzfeed Video & Purina – Puppyhood
We couldn’t resist featuring another dog advert. Whether you’re a cat lover or a dog lover, you can relate to bringing a puppy or kitten home for the first time. This ad was created by Buzzfeed Video in partnership with Purina, and it’s a truly heartwarming ad which brings back memories of your pets younger days!
Extra Gum – Birds (Origami)
Now this one surprised us, as you wouldn’t really associate Extra Gum with emotional adverts, but here were are. This ad is a powerful take on a classic trope, the father and daughter bond. It definitely tugs on the heart-strings.
Skype – The Impossible Family Portrait
We can all relate to wanting a better life for our family but would you travel across the world to give them it? This powerful advert gives insight into ones man’s journey that takes him away from his family. While this was made long before the COVID-19 outbreak, we can all relate to the difficulties of being away from family and friends. Even if you’re apart, that doesn’t have to mean that you’re alone!
Budweiser – Best Buds
Now, this advert might not make some people cry per se, but it does invoke some major heart-warming vibes. Budweiser has created an endearing advert, about an unlikely bond between a labrador and a horse. A must watch if you haven’t seen it already.
Well, you’ve come to end of our list of adverts that made you cry. It’s been an emotional journey and I’m sure if you’re like me, you’ve probably gone through a few packs of tissues. As for my personal favourite, it has to be the Puppyhood ad, as I cannot resist dogs, and there’s nothing like getting your first puppy.
We’d love to hear which adverts are your favourites, whether they’re on the list or not. Feel free to drop us an email or message us on social media.
